Eyelid ptosis

Eyelid ptosis and upper blepharoplasty in one operation

Can eyelid ptosis and upper blepharoplasty be treated in the same operation? Dr. Mahmoud El Samkary answers and explains recovery.

Some patients have eyelid ptosis together with sagging skin and puffiness of the upper eyelid. The common question is: should I treat the ptosis only, or can upper blepharoplasty be done at the same time?

Can the two procedures be combined?

Yes. Dr. Mahmoud El Samkary performs both in a single session:

  • Strengthening the eyelid muscle and lifting the eyelid to the level of the other eyelid.
  • Removing fat, puffiness and excess skin from the upper eyelid.
  • Recreating the natural eyelid crease, which is often lost in patients with ptosis.

The operation is done through a small cosmetic incision in the eyelid crease, so the appearance improves and the ptosis is treated at the same time.

Recovery after surgery

  • Some bruising and mild swelling may appear in the first days.
  • Cold compresses are used for two days, then warm compresses for a week.
  • Most patients return to work after one week to ten days.
